Preventative Care

Preventative care is an important aspect of our practice at Vital Smiles Georgia. We want to prevent dental problems before they occur, leaving your child with a healthy smile and a fun dental experience. Below is a list of steps our dentists take to proactively care for your child’s smile:

  • Prophylaxis. Prophylaxis refers to proactive healthcare that is designed to maintain good health and prevent disease. In dentistry, this means routine cleanings at the dentist’s office every six months. These cleanings help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. During these visits, the Vital Smiles Georgia team will educate your child on how to maintain good oral hygiene at home.
  • Comprehensive oral evaluation. When your child visits the dentist, he or she will receive a thorough exam. The children’s dentist will look for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral problems. After the evaluations, our expert team members will meet with you to discuss your child’s oral health status.
  • Dental sealants. Sealants are thin, protective coatings used to prevent tooth decay. They fill in the tiny grooves of the tooth surface so that brushing becomes more effective.

Remember, good nutrition and good oral hygiene at home go a long way to make our job easier. We have included a number of tips and tricks throughout our website to help you teach your child the importance of proper oral care.

Cleaning

We keep your child’s teeth sparkling clean with the help of our electric tooth brush (a motorized prophy brush). We then apply bubbles (fluoride) to keep his or her teeth strong.

Filling Cavities

We use fun tools like Mr. Bumpy (our slow speed drill) to remove decay. Your child will then receive a silver star (filling), and the tooth will be good as new.

X-Rays

We use a tooth camera (X-ray machine) to take pictures of your child’s teeth. This gives us a better look at his or her smile. Our Digital X-rays are state of the art, limiting radiation exposure.
